I am reading with interest this blog. I am always reading about the best way to build muscle mass to burn fat. I read that one kilogram of muscle fiber can increase basal metabolism by 160 calories per day.

I always thought it was the other way around?

So if you wanted to build muscle rather than strength you need to do a lesser weight with more reps?

The first answer is right. To get stronger go for lower repetitions and increase the weight. This is what powerlifters do.

You don't say how you're lifting at the moment, but try switching to a heavy weight, low rep workout scheme like a 5x5 (5 sets of 5 reps). You should be working with 75-80% of your one rep max.

Work on the big compound lifts like squats, deadlifts, bench press, shoulder press, & rows.
