Best Muscle Building Workouts
I have muscle mass, but no strength. That’s not good, considering I want to join the military. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, I have muscle mass, but no muscle strength. What am I doing wrong, and how can I build strength to get stronger and lift heavier things?

You don’t say how you’re lifting at the moment, but try switching to a heavy weight, low rep workout scheme like a 5×5 (5 sets of 5 reps). You should be working with 75-80% of your one rep max.
Work on the big compound lifts like squats, deadlifts, bench press, shoulder press, & rows.

The first answer is right. To get stronger go for lower repetitions and increase the weight. This is what powerlifters do.

I always thought it was the other way around?
So if you wanted to build muscle rather than strength you need to do a lesser weight with more reps?

I am reading with interest this blog. I am always reading about the best way to build muscle mass to burn fat. I read that one kilogram of muscle fiber can increase basal metabolism by 160 calories per day.
